When should you start putting zymaxid 0.5 eye drops in before cataract
surgery?
The answer depends on several factors, but generally your eye surgeon will tell you a few days before the
procedure.
Zymaxid is a commonly used antibiotic eye drop that is used to help prevent an infection after your
cataract procedure.
Zymaxid is the trade or brand name of the eye drop and gatifloxacin is the generic name of the medication.
Besides its use in pre op and post op cataract surgery, zymaxid and a related eye drop named zymar are used to help
treat bacterial conjunctivitis. It is not an over the counter eye drop.
It has been approved for use by the FDA since 2010 and has been used successfully since then to help reduce the
chances of eye infections after cataract surgery in the United States and around the world. Read more about a

insurance it can be expensive.
