Blepharitis or crusting of the eyelashes with clogged oil glands can make dry eye worse and cause an oily film
to cover the surface of your eyes. This may be a limiting factor in the improvement of vision after cataract
surgery.
Many eye doctors are becoming more aggressive in treating blepharitis even before cataract
surgery to ensure that the surface of your eye is as healthy as posssible prior to having the cataract removed. An
antibiotic eye dropped called Azasite is sometimes used in addition to hot compresses of the eyelids in an attempt
to lower the bacterial load on your eyelashes in order to have a safer environment for catarat
surgery.
